Waymo launches driverless robotaxi in LA

Waymo, Google’s self-driving subsidiary, has launched an unmanned robotaxi service called ‘Waymo One’ in Los Angeles. Waymo, which obtained a robotaxi operation license from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), plans to start operating in an area of about 63 square miles from Santa Monica to downtown Los Angeles, and plans to gradually expand the operating distance. The explanation is that at the beginning of the service, free service will be provided to approximately 50,000 customers on the waiting list, and will then be converted to a paid service. Austin, Texas, also announced plans to launch services for the general public by the end of this year, expanding the number of commercial autonomous driving areas to four following San Francisco and Phoenix.
